Driving Sustainability in Quarrying: CITEPA’s Role in the ROTATE Project

CITEPA is thrilled to be part of the European ROTATE project, which has now reached its halfway point after two years of progress. Our colleagues Natalia S. and Rania kamar had the pleasure of representing Citepa at the annual meeting in beautiful Stavanger, Norway.

During the event, our latest advancements in emissions estimation for quarries were presented, being a crucial part of reducing the environmental impact of quarrying activities. The meeting was an important platform for collaboration, where work package leaders outlined the steps ahead, and we were inspired by the collective commitment to sustainability and carbon footprint reduction in the quarrying sector. An important part of the annual meeting was the visit to Velde ’s quarry, one of our pilot sites with a remarkable example of circular water use and sustainable extraction. Teamwork and coordination among all partners are key, and we look forward to the impact we will achieve together in the second half of the project!

ROTATE is a EU-funded project that aims to provide environmental solutions that will contribute to facilitate the generation of synergies between diverse industrial sectors related to mining and quarrying. ROTATE goals are the following: to boost efficiency in extractive sites, enhance circularity and waste valorisation, develop sustainable processes along the mining and quarrying productive chain, and improve social awareness about the importance of this strategic sector and its commitment to sustainability. In fulfilling these goals, ROTATE also seeks to ensure a sustainable supply of critical raw materials crucial for the EU industry.
